Guide
to Books written by Sir Winston Churchill
LIBERALISM
AND THE SOCIAL PROBLEM |
|
|
|
| LIBERALISM AND THE SOCIAL PROBLEM is one
of the less well known of Churchill's works, dealing mainly
with turn of the century political issues. This work is
extremely scarce and is rarely offered even by the major
London dealers. The
first edition was published by Hodder &
Stoughton, London in December 1909 in an edition of 5000
copies. Bound in plain smooth cherry red cloth, with an
illustrated dustjacket, of which two examples are known
to survive. I must confess that I find this hundred year
old politics to be heavy going, and would not suggest
this title as one of Churchill's most readable. The US
first by the New York office of Hodder &
Stoughton is very similar in appearance with minor changes
in blocking and a New York imprint on the title page.
Other than a US library edition, there have been no reprints.
If your collection lacks this work, buy now!! This one
can only get scarcer. For those needing to read the text,
I have issued a volume containing this
and 4 other scarce early works |
