Frederick
Woods, best known for his bibliography of Churchill's
works, edited a collection of his original war despatches
from the Northwest Frontier, the Sudan, and South Africa.
Published in the 1972, YOUNG WINSTON'S WARS, presented
material never in volume form previously. The first
English edition by Leo Cooper, London was
bound in plain black cloth in a glossy black dustjacket.
The American
first by Viking is a more attractive book,
in yellow green cloth a bright blue dustwrapper. In 1992
a revised and extended edition was published by Brassey's
with the title WINSTON CHURCHILL WAR CORRESPONDENT.
This is worth having as it publishes Churchill's 1895
despatches from Cuba, which do not appear anywhere else
except in the Collected Essays.
