The Great War
George Newnes, London (1933-34), hardcover. The Great War is actually an abridged and heavily illustrated version of The World Crisis, which was originally issued as 26 fortnightly parts or magazines. Most copies were later bound in binding cases available from the publishers. This is the extra cost library binding in half dark red morocco. The leather spines are elaborately decorated in gilt with 5 gilt boxes between raised bands, with titling and exploding globe motifs. Printed on quality coated paper, the 1668 pages in total make 3 very heavy volumes, weighing a total of over 12 pounds ( 5.5 kg). Books have very tight bindings, attractive spines with good colour and bright gilt. Two of the volumes have uneven shading on the front covers as seen in the photo. Update, I knocked over the set during photography and there is a now a crack in spine of vol II. (A31d). Item #30402
