Hodder & Stoughton, London (NY), 1908, 1st American edition, The American first edition was made from English first edition sheets bound in a plain coarse dark red cloth with the same gilt titles on the spine as used on the English. Cohen reports a total of 1400 copies between the three issues. This copy is the 3rd issue with George H. Doran Company imprint. See Langworth p. 84., Chen A27.6. Book is tight and unworn, but spine well faded and discoloured. The book has been recased with spine laid down onto new backing. Contents remarkable for a total absence of foxing. This American first has become exceedingly scarce. This edition is ugly and difficult to photograph. (ICS A12ab.1). Item #33511
