Winston S. Churchill, Volume VI, Finest Hour 1939-1941

Heinemann, London, 1983, 1st, hardcover. This volume is easily the high spot of the eight volume Official Biography, covering the period from the start of the war, through Churchill becoming Prime Minister at the time of Britain’s greatest peril, up to the time of Pearl Harbour, after which he knew Britain would survive. A thick 8vo volume of 1308 pages, detailed index, 22 maps and 43 illustrations. The popular edition has a pictorial dustwrapper, rather than a solid colour as on uniform edition, and a cheaper binding cloth. It sold for £5.00 less when new and so is more plentiful now. It has the exact same text and illustrations, so is good value. Book is clean externally, owner name on endpaper, contents unmarked. Dustwrappewr is clipped, two splits at head of spine. This is the co-pubklished Heinemann/Stoddart version. (bio). Item #34555
