The Great War is actually an abridged and heavily illustrated version of The World Crisis, which was originally issued as 26 fortnightly parts or magazines. Most copies were later bound in binding cases available from the publishers. The most popular is bound in this smooth cloth of royal blue with elaborate gilt and blind stamping featuring an exploding globe motif on the spines. Printed on quality coated paper, the 1668 pages in total make 3 very heavy volumes, weighing a total of over 12 pounds ( 5.5 kg). Books are clean, minor wear at spine ends, gilt tiles very bright, bindings firm, contenst clean. Page edges are red speckled and endpapers a green patterned paper. A very good set. (A31d).
