Copp, Clark, & Co., Toronto, 1900, hardcover. First Canadian edition, produced from American plates or sheets, but bound in a similar but not identical style to the English first. A coarser more ochre-brown colour, retaining the armoured train on cover, but with a red fleur-de-lys on spine instead of the two flags. Far scarcer than English or American firsts. 496 pages, same 8 maps and plans. Issued without catalogue at rear. A superior copy with spine having good bright spine colour, not darkened as most copies I have seen. Front and rear covers look like new with sharp square corners and no wear. Binding is tight with intact original endpapers having no names or markings. Contents very clean with no foxing at all. A careful observation reveals a faint stain of top edges of pages near the spine. Not perfect, but certainly ciollectable. (A4bb). Item #35096
