Savrola (A Tale of the Revolution in Laurania)
George Newnes, London, (1908), An early “pulp” style reprint of Churchill’s novel. Printed on cheap pulpy paper which goes brown, ads at each end, in illustrated slick paper covers printed red and blue. Size 5.75 x 8.25 inches, 128 pages, with two full page plates on slick paper, making it the first illustrated edition. Part of Newnes “sixpenny novels illustrated” series. A fragile item, low survivability, certainly scarcer than first, but not as high value. Woods A3c, Cohen A3.5 Front cover has good colour, usual wear and chips along the edges. Spine has some abrasion at base, but all titles present. Paper browned, especially on edges. Far from fine, but better than many I have seen. I originally bought this book at an auction in Swindon in 1994 and then supplied to Langworth who sold it to an American coillector. I have now got it back again from an auction of that collector's estate. (A3c). Item #35391
