Longman’s Green & Co., New York, 1900, 2nd printing, hardcover. Churchill’s only book length novel, written in 1899, published in 1900. The American edition was published prior to the English. Normally the 2nd impression is bound identically to firsts in dark blue cloth, gilt on cover and spine. But a scarce variant is know in bright red cloth with white titling. Completely unknown to Woods, but see Langworth page 40, Cohen A3.1.c. Red cloth covers good colour, white stamping on cover partly rubbed off, spine dull and lettering unreadable. Front free endpaper gone, half title page partly glued to front cover, binding split at title page. (A3a.2). Item #36804
