Eyre & Spottiswoode, London, 1940, This is the 3rd printing of this edition, and easily the scarcest of the 5 printings of this popular edition. Cohen reports only 1252 copies printed. The scarcity of this printing results in a premium and thus its appeal is primarily to completists. Those just wanting a readable early edition should look to the 1933, 1949, or 1951 printings. Similar in appearance to the 1933, the cloth is thinner and of different texture. Book is very crisp and unworn, with sharp corners showing only slight wear. Cloth has a good deep color, Page edges even but off white, a single spot on foredges. Gift inscription dated 1941 on free endpaper. Correct dustjacket with photo of Churchill at desk facing the camera. DJ is unclipped, a little darkened on spine, a number of pieces gone along the edges. (A2da.3). Item #50014
