Savrola (A Tale of the Revolution in Laurania)
George Newnes, London, (1908), An early “pulp” style reprint of Churchill’s novel. Printed on cheap pulpy paper which goes brown, ads at each end, in illustrated slick paper covers printed red and blue. Size 5.75 x 8.25 inches, 128 pages, with two full page plates on slick paper, making it the first illustrated edition. Part of Newnes “sixpenny novels illustrated” series. A fragile item, low survivability, certainly scarcer than first, but not as high value. Usual worn condition, but the front cover is all there, though with several tears and vertical creases near the left edge. The spine is also complete, some abrasion at the ends. The rear cover has several tears and has lost a piece about 10 15 mm along its outer edge. The paper is of course tanned, and there is a dark splash on the upper third of the page edges. Lots of flaws, but still far better than most copies. Supplied in custom cloth clamshell box with satin lining. (A3c). Item #50019
