Longmans, Green & Co., London, 1898, paperback. The Colonial issue of the first edition. This edition, intended for sale in India and the Colonies, used the same printing plates as the first home issue, so has all the same errors. Most copies seen are clothbound, but there was also a softcover edition with thin pale green covers printed in black. See Langworth p. 17. The survival rate of these flimsy copies in the far flung empire was extremely low. Both covers present, the rear is detached, the front held on with tape. Books is ex-library from the Auckland Institute. Some scattered spots, but contents generally clean. As bad as this is, it is better than most I have seen, a total of 3 copies seen. (A1ab).
