The Second World War, six volumes
Cassell, Sydney, 1948-54, The Australian first edition of Second World War was published by the Cassell subsidiary in Sydney. It uses the same setting as the British edition, but is bound in a more grainy black cloth, a slightly different shade of endpaper, and the top edges are not stained red. The first five volumes have Australian Shilling prices on the flaps of the dj’s and state published in Australia on the copyright page. Vol. VI has the same jacket and copyright page as the English and can only be identified by the variant cloth and unstained top edges. Complete set all correct Australian issues. Vol 6 only has some light edge spots, others clean. All have clean covers and good gilt, but never as bright as English editions. Dustwrappers are all correct, vol I is clipped, 2,3,4,5 not clipped. Vol VI is always clipped as it used the UK jacket. Spines all tanned to varying degrees, losses to spines of vols 3 and 6. It is very difficult to find these in any sort of presentable condition.
