LONDON TO LADYSMITH

LONDON TO LADYSMITH VIA PRETORIA is another Churchill thriller that includes the famous story of his escape from the Boers. It is the first of two books resulting from his despatches from the Boer War in South Africa. The British first edition was issued in a light tan cloth decorated in red, black, and gold with a drawing of the armoured train and is almost never seen in truly fine condition. There was a second impression a few months later that looks exactly the same and as prices rise on decent firsts, this represents an opportunity to have a first-like copy at a reasonable cost. A USA edition was issued in a plain coarse red cloth. There is also a very scarce Canadian edition. This title has not been reprinted since 1900 other than a facsimile edition published in South Africa in 1982, so even reading copies are hard to find. There is now a new release called "THE BOER WAR" which contains this text plus Ian Hamilton's March, published by Leo Cooper in 1989, with a US version from Norton, now out of print but still available here.
